Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Action Fund Endorses Indya Kincannon for Knoxville Mayor

Kincannon’s plans to address high electric bills and climate solutions are needed now more than ever

Knoxville, Tenn. – The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Action Fund (SACEAF) released the following statement today endorsing Indya Kincannon for Mayor of Knoxville:

The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Action Fund endorses Indya Kincannon as candidate for Mayor of Knoxville due to her commitment to environmental leadership with a focus on what cities can do to address climate change. Her plans focus on energy solutions that will lower residential electric bills, invest in renewable energy and energy efficiency and expand electric transportation. These plans will help Knoxville lead in building a more resilient infrastructure, create local jobs and reduce the carbon pollution that harms our health and causes climate change.

SACEAF believes that Indya Kincannon is best suited to build and expand on the success of Mayor Rogero efforts to reduce Knoxville’s carbon footprint.

It is Indya Kincannon’s commitment to form a Mayor’s Climate Council, composed of climate leaders, community voices, and stakeholders, and to develop detailed energy solutions that save tax dollars, reduce carbon pollution and grow local jobs that we are excited to offer our endorsement.

Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Action Fund Endorses Brent Bailey for MS Public Service Commission

Knoxville, Tenn. – The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Action Fund, which works to make clean energy solutions a top priority for our region’s elected leaders, announced today its endorsement of Brent Bailey for election to the Mississippi Public Service Commission.

SACE Action Fund’s Executive Director, Dr. Stephen Smith, offered this statement about today’s endorsement:

“The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE) Action Fund is proud to endorse the candidacy of Brent Bailey for Mississippi Public Service Commission. This endorsement is based in part on his pledge to ensure transparency in the Mississippi Public Service Commission proceedings since utility customers have a right to engage in and understand how decisions made by the utility commission impact family budgets.

We also applaud Bailey’s campaign pledge to keep utility rates low by fostering the expansion of energy efficiency programs as outlined on his campaign website, as we know that the cheapest energy for utilities and customers is the energy you don’t need to produce or use.

And finally, we welcome his support for promoting alternative energy technologies that create jobs, build resilience in infrastructure, and unlock economical solutions that lower customer costs.

These and other actions specifically focused on promoting clean energy have exceeded the following Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Action Fund endorsement criteria:

  • Does the candidate have a track record supporting clean energy and climate policies?
  • Has the candidate utilized social media or been quoted by media expressing support for clean energy and climate change policies?
  • Does the candidate’s website provide a statement in support of clean energy or climate change or list clean energy or climate action policies as a priority?

We wish Brent Bailey well in his campaign and thank him for consistent leadership on behalf of the citizens of Mississippi.

Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Action Fund Endorses Bill Nelson for U.S. Senate

TAMPA, Fla. — The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Action Fund, which works to make clean energy solutions a top priority for our region’s elected leaders, announced today its endorsement of Senator Bill Nelson for re-election to the U.S. Senate. A lifelong Floridian, Senator Nelson remains devoted to protecting Florida’s coasts from the impacts of offshore drilling while working to ensure clean air and clean water for the Sunshine State.

SACE Action Fund’s State Director, Susan Glickman, offered this statement about today’s endorsement:

“Florida is ground zero for the impacts of climate change and sea level rise, so it is critical that we elect leaders who acknowledge the risks and are working toward solutions that will protect our state. For Senator Nelson’s long career he has been a vocal opponent of offshore drilling and will continue to fight to protect our coasts and help us move toward a clean energy future.”

Senator Nelson voiced his gratitude for the endorsement, noting the many key environmental issues Florida currently faces. “It’s really important we pay attention to the environmental changes and the results — red tide, green algae, people trying to drill off of our shores, sea level rise,” Nelson said. “It’s important we step up and do our job and vote.”

Florida voting is currently underway with more than 1 million mail-in ballots already returned and early voting in progress for many counties. Election day is Tuesday, November 6.

Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Action Fund Endorses Roy Cooper for Governor of NC

Asheville, NC. — The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Action Fund, which works to make clean energy solutions a top priority for our region’s elected leaders, announced today its endorsement for Roy Cooper’s candidacy for North Carolina’s Governor.

This endorsement is based in part on his leadership as Attorney General, specifically as he used the 2001 Clean Smokestacks law to improve the state’s air quality by pushing the Tennessee Valley Authority to reduce its harmful power plant emissions that were drifting into North Carolina.

We also applaud the letter he sent to North Carolina’s legislative leaders opposing pending legislation that would have directed our Department of Environmental Quality to sue the Environmental Protection Agency over the Clean Power Plan. Like Attorney General Cooper, we support convening a stakeholder process to devise a state plan to meet the carbon emissions reductions called for by the Clean Power Plan, similar to the process that produced North Carolina’s landmark Clean Smokestack Act more than a decade ago.

And finally, we welcome his attention to and focus upon the serious issue of coal ash contamination across North Carolina in his recent campaign statements and ads.

These and other actions specifically focused on addressing climate change and promoting clean energy have exceeded the following Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Action Fund endorsement criteria:

• Does the candidate have a track record supporting clean energy and climate policies?
• Has the candidate utilized social media or been quoted by media expressing support for clean energy and climate change policies?
• Does the candidate’s website provide a statement in support of clean energy or climate change or list clean energy or climate action policies as a priority?

We wish Attorney General Cooper well in his campaign and thank him for consistent leadership on behalf of the citizens of North Carolina.

TAMPA, Fla. — The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Action Fund, which works to make clean energy solutions a top priority for our region’s elected leaders, announced today its endorsement of Kristin Jacobs for election to the Florida House of Representatives for District 96.

This endorsement is based in part on her leadership as a Broward County Commissioner in addressing climate change adaptation and mitigation in South Florida where she led in the establishment of the Broward County Climate Change Task Force and the four-county Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact.

We also applaud her national leadership efforts through her nomination to the White House National Ocean Council Governance Coordinating Committee, her election as the committee’s chair, as well as her service on the White House Task Force on Climate Change and Resiliency.

These and her many other leadership actions specifically focused on addressing climate change and promoting clean energy have met and exceeded the following SACE Action Fund endorsement criteria:

• Does the candidate have a track record supporting climate action and clean energy policies?
• Has the candidate utilized the media or been quoted by media expressing support for climate action and clean energy policies?
